Q. What is NOTOCON?

A. NOTOCON is the National Ordo Templi Orientis Conference. This is a very special event held every other year for Ordo Templi Orientis members in good standing only (Minerval degree and above). The National O.T.O. Conference provides many great opportunities to meet and network with Brothers and Sisters from our Order from around the world.

Q. Who can attend?

A. NOTOCON attendance is open to all active initiate members in good standing of OTO. All attendees must pre-register for NOTOCON. "Walk up" registration at the event site will not be available. The deadline for registration is July 1, 2005.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. See the Registration Info page.

Q. What can I expect to happen while I’m there?

A. There will be presentations by luminaries of the O.T.O community, a formal banquet, a Mass for initiate members of III° and above, a Mass for everyone, a Gnostic Mass fashion show, and time for fellowship and fraternity. A vendor room will also be available.

Q.   Is there a vegetarian choice for the banquet meal?

A. Yes. When you register, you will be asked to select either fish, vegetarian or beef (done medium).

Q.  What is the dress code for the banquet?

A. This is traditionally a formal attire event, but a suit or cocktail dress is certainly fine as well. Generally there is a diverse array of Thelemic finery.

Q. Can my spouse attend? What about my kids?

A.  Significant others are allowed to attend in special instances only.  If you are an initiate of III° or above, you may submit the name of your significant other to onsite@notocon.org. Pending the discretion and approval by the Supreme and Holy King, your partner will be allowed to attend and be required to pay the full registration fee. This is an adult only conference.

Q. Are there childcare options with other parents?

A. Some parents have expressed interest in coordinating childcare. You can add your name to a list of parent contact information which will be circulated to those on the list. Please contact the Local Hotels and Attractions Coordinator for this information. NOTOCON will not coordinate for parents or provide facilities for children, only provide contact information.

Q. How long does Notocon last and what is the schedule?

A. Notocon lasts 3 days. See Schedule for schedule details.

A. See Accommodations.

Q. Where is the hotel and how much are the rooms?

A. See Accommodations.

Q. Are there other hotels nearby?

A. See Accommodations.

Q. Who is sponsoring this event?

A. See Home - Details.

A. Check out the the Venue page.

Q. What food options are there?

A. Please go to Registration form to make selection.

Q. Is there smoking?

A. In designated areas and outside.

Q. Are there any discounts available for rooms or food?

A. The hotel is providing us with conference rates on food and rentals. We are providing a Friday night reception and a formal dinner on Sunday. See Accommodations for room rates.

Q. Can we share rooms and how do I make those arrangements?

A. Yes, you may share rooms.  Please make arrangements to this end on your own.  There will no additional charge for doubles, triples or quads if booked at the $79.00 conference rate. Again, note there are a limited number of rooms at this price, so be sure to book early. No meals are included in the room rate.

Q. Is there going to be a mass? Should I wear my white robe?

A. There will be 2 Gnostic Masses: one for initiates of III° and above and one for everyone.  Please refer to the Schedule. Your white confirmation robe is optional; but note there may not be a private area for you to robe up without encountering the other hotel guests.

Q. What can I buy?

A. T-shirts will be available. A vendor room is also available. See the Vendors FAQ page for more details of products that will be available.

Q. Should I bring an umbrella? What kind of clothing should I bring?

A. Average temperature in Washington, DC for August is 78°F and the average rainfall is 4.1 inches. But August is hurricane season, and nasty Atlantic storms are a possibility. It is always wise to be prepared for rain.

A. See the Transportation page for directions.

Q. What else is there to do? What are the local attractions?

A. Consult the Area Attractions page.

Q. Is there massage available there?

A. The hotel does not have a spa; however, there may be a massage therapist available in the vendor room offering limited massages.

Q. Can I come early or stay late?

A. Absolutely. See Accommodations.

Q.  When is the Gnostic Mass Fashion Show?

 A.  The fashion show will be on Friday, August 12 between 9pm and 11pm. You will need to be available that afternoon during the break for a brief rehearsal.

Q.  What is the purpose of the Gnostic Mass Fashion Show?

 A.  This event is designed to let O.T.O. members showcase their Gnostic Mass robes. We know how much time and effort Brethren put into the creation of their robes, whether purchased or made by hand. We hope this event will also serve as an inspiration to O.T.O. Bodies improving or beginning to celebrate the Gnostic Mass. It will be photo archived (optional) for outreach and historical documentation. It is NOT a competition or beauty contest; there will be no judging and no prizes given. The "runway" will be the Mass temple.

Q.  Can I model more than one robe?

 A.  Yes. Please be uncomplicated so you have time to change outfits. The dressing area will be small and you will share it with others.

Q.  Will the Fashion Show be filmed or photographed?

 A.  The event will not be filmed. Being photographed is optional. If you would like your photograph shown on the NOTOCON website, in Agape, or some other media; you will sign a release form allowing the Order to publish your photo. A separate area inside the room will be sectioned off for photographs.

Q.  What about privacy?

 A.  A small dressing area will be set-up inside the room where the Mass temple is set. Restrooms are located outside the Mass room. A separate area will be sectioned off inside the Mass room for photographs. The Mass room will be free of hotel staff interruptions (except emergencies), but please do not treat the room as clothing optional. If your outfit is skimpy, do showcase it; but change immediately back into more conservative dress once you are finished. Please respect this policy if you choose to participate in this event!

Q. What if I prefer not to model my robe?

A. There will be a limited number of display tables for robes outside the show room. People can display their robes on these tables on a first come, first serve basis. All robes must be labeled with your name and local body affiliation. Security will be in the area to keep an eye on things, but you are responsible for your property.
