Horizon Oasis Open House, August 6th

Friday, May 29th, 2009

There is one more reason to arrive in Seattle at least a day early for NOTOCON VII.

On Thursday, August 6th beginning at 7:00pm, Horizon Oasis will be holding an
Open House. Come and meet other early arrivals and our local brothers and sisters in their home space. At the time of the conference, Horizon will be celebrating two years in a 24/7 temple.

Carpools to and from the DoubleTree Southcenter will be available ~ please plan to join us for refreshments and fellowship on the evening before NOTOCon.

Horizon Temple is located at 1423 10th Ave Seattle, WA 98122. A map and
direction can be found here: http://www.seattle-oto.org/temple.htm. More information about car pools will be made available as we get closer to the event.

Come to the Conference, Stay for a Vacation!

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.

One of the more beautiful aspects of NOTOCON is that it travels to a new part of the country each time. This gives us not only the opportunity to meet a different region’s Order members, but also the opportunity to visit other parts of the country.

This being the first time that NOTOCON has been hosted in the Seattle area, you may not be aware that our region is an excellent place to visit. And now that you have the reason to arrive, I’ll now try to give you some reasons to stay a while.

In the city you will find a number of tourist destinations.

Our famous Space Needle stands tall over the Seattle Center and affords a marvelous view of Seattle, Elliot Bay, Lake Union, and the Olympic Mountains. Straight down you will see the Pacific Science Center and, probably the most popular Seattle Center spot in August, the fountain. You can visit the observation deck to enjoy the view, or invest in a tasty, if a bit overpriced, meal in the revolving restaurant, and excellent choice at sunset to get the benefit of both daylight and night time views.

The Center is also home to several festivals during the year. This summer on August 1 – 2, the weekend prior to NOTOCON, the Center will host the Arab Festival, http://seattlecenter.com/events/festivals/festal/detail.asp?EV_EventNum=21

Washington is a beautiful place, particularly in the summer time. If you enjoy the outdoors, we definitely have something for you. Check out the links below for everything from park strolling to mountain climbing. http://www.trails.com/activity.aspx?area=13492

Want to see more of Puget Sound? Take a day trip across the water to one of our islands, or see the Navy shipyards in Bremerton. Information about Washington State Ferries can be found here:http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/

On your way to take a ferry from down town? You might want to allow some extra time to check out our Waterfront and the famous Pike Place Market.

And of course you will want to check out the events calendars for the two O.T.O. bodies in the Seattle – Tacoma area. Horizon Oasis and Vortex Oasis. We’ll be busily preparing for (and recovering from) the conference, but depending on the timing of your visit there may yet be opportunity to meet in fellowship at a Gnostic Mass or social. Check out their websites for more information.

Getting There Could Be Half the Fun: Take a Plane

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.

I was listening to the radio recently and learned that domestic airfare prices are at an all time low, with flights from just about anywhere to just about anywhere in the U.S. being below $300.00.

I checked MSNBC’s farecast and found flights from San Diego to Seattle going for $138…from Orlando, $227. It just might be the best time to get your plane ticket!

With shuttles from SeaTac Airport to our hotel, the Doubletree Southcenter, every 15 minutes, arriving by plane will be easy! [Note: Be sure you're headed for the Doubletree Tukwila/Southcenter, and not the Airport Doubletree]

See you at the con!
